Fubara Agreed Not to Seek Second Term — APC Chieftain Reveals Details of Rivers Political Deal

Fresh revelations have emerged over the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, as a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress claimed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had earlier agreed not to seek a second term in office as part of a political settlement arrangement.

According to the APC figure, the agreement was reached during efforts to resolve the prolonged power struggle in the state involving the governor and loyalists of former Rivers governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

“That is not power play or wickedness; it is simply honouring an agreement that Fubara himself agreed to,” the APC chieftain stated.

“He would not have escaped impeachment if not for the President and Wike himself. Part of the agreement to settle the recurrent political crisis in Rivers then was that he would not contest for a second term, and he agreed.”

The source further alleged that political moves currently being made within the APC are aimed at enforcing the terms of that agreement, insisting that recent decisions taken against Fubara were not arbitrary.

“APC is just working towards that agreement, and that was why Fubara was not cleared to contest,” he added.

The statement is expected to further intensify political tensions in Rivers State, where the rivalry between supporters of Fubara and loyalists of Wike has continued to shape the state’s political landscape.

The crisis, which has triggered defections, court battles and leadership disputes within the state assembly, remains one of the biggest political flashpoints ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Neither Governor Fubara nor his media team has officially reacted to the latest claims at the time of filing this report.
