Gbajabiamila Mobilizes Former Northern Legislators and Leaders for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Campaign

Abuja, Nigeria – August 3, 2025

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has led a strategic outreach to former federal lawmakers and northern political leaders, urging their support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. The appeal took place during the 2025 Dialogue Session hosted by the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators in Abuja.

Emphasis on Unity, Continuity, and National Interest

Gbajabiamila described Tinubu as a leader whose inclusive policies have benefited all regions of Nigeria—particularly the North—and reinforced that supporting his re-election would ensure the continuity of development projects and reforms.
He said, “President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along. From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefiting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity.”

Northern Caucus Issues Endorsement

At the end of the dialogue, the Northern Caucus released a communiqué—signed by coordinator Rufai Chanchangi and secretary Atiwurcha—officially endorsing Tinubu’s second term. The document emphasized that a completed tenure under the South, followed by a return to the North, would promote national peace and respect existing power rotation agreements.

Internal Division Among Northern Stakeholders

Not all northern voices aligned behind the endorsement. A faction of former northern lawmakers and regional leaders, under the banner of the Concerned Former Members of the House of Representatives, repudiated the caucus’ position. They criticized the endorsement as unrepresentative and accused the forum of political co-optation, particularly at a time when issues like insecurity, youth unemployment, and poverty remain acute in northern states.
