Your Major Assignment Is Attacking Peter Obi — OK Movement Blasts Onanuga

The Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the OK Movement, Adefolaseye Adebayo, has strongly criticised the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, over his recent remarks directed at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The latest exchange followed a post made by Onanuga on 𝕏, where he suggested that Peter Obi lacked the courage to contest a presidential primary election.

According to him, presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Osifo Stanley Osayamen, demonstrated more political courage by contesting against Tinubu during the APC presidential primary.

“I completely agree. Osifo Stanley Osayamen possesses the courage that certain aspiring presidents, such as Peter Obi, lack,” Onanuga wrote.

Reacting to the statement, Adefolaseye accused the presidential aide of abandoning his responsibility of projecting Nigeria positively to the international community and instead focusing his energy on attacking Peter Obi.

“It is a shame that, as a media and communication representative of this government, instead of projecting Nigeria positively to the United States and the international community by reassuring them that our elections will be transparent and credible, your government chose from day one to relentlessly pursue and attack a Nigerian who continues to contribute immensely to improving the lives of ordinary people,” she stated.

The OK Movement coordinator further alleged that targeting Peter Obi had become Onanuga’s central assignment within the current administration.

“We know Peter Obi is your major assignment. Your job description appears to be simply: ‘Attack Peter Obi,’” she wrote.

Adefolaseye also drew comparisons between Onanuga and former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, claiming public officials are often remembered for the narratives they consistently promote while in office.

“Remember, just as Nigerians remember Lai Mohammed largely for propaganda and misinformation, people are remembered for what they consistently represent,” she added.

“When you eventually leave office because government positions are temporary, have you ever paused to think about what history will remember you for in old age?”

“I already know the answer, because you are carrying out that assignment passionately and diligently.”

The comments have since generated fresh political debate online, further reflecting the deepening rivalry between supporters of the Tinubu administration and loyalists of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 political season.
