Ogun State, Nigeria
A wave of grief and outrage swept through Iju-Ishaga in Ogun State following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of four pupils returning home from school.
According to eyewitnesses, the pupils were attempting to cross the road when a speeding vehicle lost control and struck them. The impact was so severe that all four children died on the spot, while several others reportedly sustained injuries.
Shortly after the crash, angry residents and parents took to the streets in protest. They blocked the busy Iju-Ishaga road with burning tyres and placards, demanding justice and immediate government intervention to prevent further tragedies. Many of the protesters called on the state government to install speed bumps, deploy traffic officials, and enforce stricter driving regulations in the area.
Security operatives were later deployed to restore order and prevent the protest from escalating. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle involved has reportedly been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
Local leaders and advocacy groups have joined calls for improved pedestrian safety measures, particularly in school zones. They described the incident as avoidable and urged authorities to act swiftly to protect children and other vulnerable road users.
The Ogun State government has yet to issue an official statement, but pressure is mounting as the public demands accountability and immediate action.
