Resurfaced Interview: Don Jazzy Opens Up About Struggles with Monogamy, Sparks Debate Online

Lagos, Nigeria – A 2021 interview of Nigerian music executive and producer Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has resurfaced on social media, drawing renewed attention and sparking fresh debate on relationships, monogamy, and honesty in romantic partnerships.

The trending clip, taken from his appearance on The Nancy Isime Show, captures the Mavin Records boss speaking candidly about his personal views on monogamy. Don Jazzy stated that he does not believe he is capable of maintaining a relationship with only one woman and prefers to be upfront about it rather than mislead a partner.

“I don’t believe that I am strong enough to be with [only] one person,” he admitted. “I think people will run away from me being truthful. I will not be dating you and telling you that you’re the only person.”

He went on to explain that even when in a committed relationship, he continues to find other women attractive, adding that monogamy does not come naturally to him.

The resurfaced footage has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some users praised the music mogul for his honesty and self-awareness, others criticised his stance as a reflection of emotional immaturity or commitment issues. The discussion also reignited comparisons with fellow music star 2Baba, who once stated that men are biologically wired to desire multiple women. 2Baba eventually issued a public apology after facing backlash over the comment.

Don Jazzy, who was previously married to UK-based model and writer Michelle Jackson in 2003, saw the marriage end in 2005—a separation he attributed to his overwhelming commitment to music at the time.

Beyond his personal life, Don Jazzy remains a dominant force in the African music industry. Following the split of Mo’ Hits Records, which he co-founded with D’Banj, he launched Mavin Records in 2012. The label has since grown into one of the most influential in Africa, launching the careers of successful artistes such as Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Crayon, and Johnny Drille.

As public discourse continues around celebrity relationships and the evolving expectations of romantic commitment, Don Jazzy’s remarks highlight the growing trend of openness in how public figures navigate and express their personal values.
