“Not an Election, but Conspiracy,” Says PDP
At a joint press briefing held on Tuesday at the PDP secretariat in Lagos Mainland, Chief Adegboyega Adegbesan—Forum Chairman and PDP Leader in Oshodi-Isolo—described the election as fraudulent and vowed legal action. He accused LASIEC and the ruling APC of conspiring to “subvert the people’s sovereign will”.
-
PDP agents, he claimed, were beaten and barred from collation centres.
-
In certain areas, vote tallies reportedly exceeded the number of registered voters.
-
Ballot box snatching, voter intimidation, and ballot stuffing occurred in several PDP strongholds.
-
He asserted that LASIEC officials either stood by or actively facilitated these irregularities
Adegbesan stated that the PDP has compiled compelling evidence—videos, eyewitness testimonies, and documentation—to challenge the results in court. He also urged the National Assembly to dismantle state electoral commissions and enforce grassroots electoral reforms.
Ward-Level Discrepancies Highlighted
Alhaji Isiaka Shodiya (PDP Alimosho) added calls for broader electoral reforms, while Mr. Alade Yusuf (PDP Yaba LCDA) alleged that Ward F’s election results were declared without any collation. He demanded a rerun conducted under proper security and civil society oversight.
Unified Opposition Front
Leaders from the Labour Party (LP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), African Action Congress (AAC), Action People’s Congress (APP), and Accord Party also spoke at the event. Pastor Dayo Ekong (LP) condemned the election as a “systematic, state‑sponsored rape of democracy,” saying it was a meticulously planned charade to impose APC candidates on Lagosians.
They listed widespread irregularities—missing electoral materials, exclusion of opposition agents from collation centres, intimidation tactics—and echoed calls for the immediate cancellation of the election. They further demanded LASIEC’s disbandment or complete overhaul.
APC Sweeps, Ruling Party Stands Firm
According to LASIEC, the APC secured all 57 local government chairmanship seats and 375 of the 376 councillorship positions. The lone non-APC seat remains unconfirmed.
In response, APC spokesman Seye Oladejo described the results as a “resounding victory,” claiming it reflected the electorate’s confidence in the party’s grassroots governance agenda
Bottom line: Opposition parties have united in rejecting the results, citing alleged electoral malpractices and calling for a full cancellation and fresh polls. Legal action appears imminent as they prepare to head to court.
