Day 5: Emmiwuks Reaches Cotonou on Epic Nigeria‑to‑USA Bike Trek

Cotonou, Benin Republic – On the fifth day of his ambitious cross-continental journey, Emmanuel Myam—better known as Emmiwuks—cycled into Cotonou this morning, undeterred by road fatigue or the pounding rain.

The 25‑year‑old from Benue State began his remarkable expedition on June 30 from Lagos. In an effort to highlight the plight of internally displaced and vulnerable children, Emmiwuks is riding all the way to the United States—an unprecedented mission of endurance and advocacy .

In a recent Facebook update, he wrote:

“From Seme to Cotonou 🇧🇯
It’s been a heavy downpour since morning, the roads soaked, the skies grey, but the mission is alive.
Through the rain, through the rough, your support is my strength. Every message, every share, every prayer pushes me forward. Cotonou, I’m here. Let’s keep riding. Let’s keep believing.”

A Journey Rooted in Resilience & Hope

Emmiwuks isn’t new to extreme cycling. In 2022, he cycled roughly 500 km from Makurdi to Lagos in nine days to meet music superstar Davido—a trip that made him an overnight sensation .

He later revealed that a near-fatal bout of appendicitis in 2023 reshaped his worldview—and inspired him to dedicate his next journey to promoting awareness for orphaned and displaced children

Mixed Reactions on Social Media

His current ride has sparked a mix of admiration and concern:

  • Supporters describe him as a visionary, likening his spirit to pioneers like Elon Musk.

  • Critics worry about his safety, questioning the mental and physical toll of such a ride.

Despite the controversy, Emmiwuks presses on—each pedal stroke carrying his message of hope and resilience.

Next Stop: Onward Through West Africa

After today’s milestone in Cotonou, his journey continues north-west across West Africa, traversing new frontiers in pursuit of his ultimate goal: reaching American soil and spotlighting those left behind in conflict zones back home.

Why This Matters

Emmiwuks’ journey transcends sport. It’s a symbol of determination, a testament to the power of individual initiative in raising awareness. With each mile, he pushes global attention toward issues often overshadowed—especially the struggles of Nigeria’s most vulnerable children.

On Day 5, soaked but unbowed, Emmiwuks remains resolute:

“Let’s keep riding. Let’s keep believing.”

Stay tuned — the journey is far from over, and his message is only gaining momentum.
