APC suffers setback in Delta state as 5,000 members decamp to PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost over 5,000 of its members to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ika north east local government area of Delta state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost over 5,000 of its members to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ika north east local government area of Delta state.

According to Vanguard, the defectors were led by a chieftain of the party in the area, Comrade Ebenezer Obiazorkwo and other seven APC ward chairmen.
The defectors said their exit from the APC was the end of opposition in the local government, adding that the PDP was the only party that is on ground in Delta State.
They said they have decided to follow light, truth and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa whose leadership style they claimed had brought peace, unity and development to all parts of the state.
Comrade Obiazorkwo who spoke on behalf of the defectors assured Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of their total loyalty.
We will never return to Egypt in our political journey,” Obiazorkwo said.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa when receiving the defectors, assured the new entrants that the PDP would give them equal treatment with old members.
He told the defectore that they made the best decision to join the PDP.
Meanwhile, the APC has said that Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction is achievable under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The vice chairman of the party in the southeast, Chief Emma Eneukwu, stated this at a meeting of the party’s south east zonal caucus held at Uburu in Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Eneukwu called on the party in the southeast to remain more united and focused especially as the 2019 general elections approaches.
He said that the party had been repositioned to capture political power in the remaining four zones in the state and called for contributions of the party leaders for the success of the party.
