The Vice Chancellor said he was able to monitor the staff's activities from his own network.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku on Thursday, November 30, accused the university staff of watching pornographic videos at work.
According to Punch, the VC said over 40 percent of the university staff spend more time watching porn and other illicit films at work than doing the work for which they are employed.
Ahaneku said he was able to monitor the staff's activities from his own network.
Ahaneku said the report of the trend among lecturers sitting in their offices to watch illicit movies in their offices prompted him to take a decision to censor internet services in the university from his office.
He added that the staff of the institution had demanded computers to facilitate their jobs, only for them to use the computers for negative things.
He said, “This is one reason we shut down YouTube from the university’s resource centre.
“People should be made to be conscientious as well as do what they have been assigned to do and eschew indolence.
“There have been a lot of abuses on facilities that, ordinarily, should aid staff in their jobs and as a result plans are underway to remove the televisions in central offices.''
The Vice-Chancellor, however, said that the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the university was working to curb corrupt practices among employees and students.
