Lionel Messi tribute statue destroyed once again by vandals

This is the second time the sculpture has been destroyed in 2017 - The sculpture was erected in late 2016 along the banks of the Rio de la Plata - Messi's image stands alongside other sporting hero's from Argentina A statue in tribute to Lionel Messi on Paseo de la Gloria in Argentina has vandalized once again after it was previously targeted in January This is the second time that the statue in Buenos Aires has been vandalized this year.

The first time it was targeted it was cut in half however this time the legs were cut, leaving the body of the statue across the pavement on Costanera Sur. In January 2017, the sculpture was destroyed only a matter of months after it was placed in its current location.

The statue was part of a series of sculptures of Argentina's sporting heroes on the Paseo de la Gloria along the banks of the Rio de la Plata. Alongside the image of Messi stands other greats such as tennis stars Gabriela Sabatini and Guillermo Vilas, NBA basketball sensation Manu Ginobili and motorsport hero Juan Manuel Fangio. Police have said they do not understand the motive for the destruction and no one has yet been found responsible for the actions
