Kogi ADC Suspends Congressman Leke Abejide Over Insubordination

Lokoja, Kogi State – August 2, 2025

The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the indefinite suspension of Hon. Leke Abejide, the federal lawmaker representing Yagba East-West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, citing “gross insubordination” and involvement in anti-party activities.

Reasons Behind the Suspension

According to ADC State Secretary John Adaji, the suspension was triggered by Abejide’s recent unauthorized meeting with party members in Abuja—held without clearance from the state leadership. The party accuses him of attempting to usurp the authority of the state chairman and secretary and working against ADC’s internal structures. Those involved in such activities have been warned to either align with party principles or face consequences.

Allegations of Insubordination and Defection Risk

Beyond procedural breaches, Abejide is alleged to have lobbied grassroots leaders to support the ruling APC government, a move seen as directly undermining ADC’s interests. The party has warned that continued behavior of this nature may lead to formal expulsion.

Party Secretary Calls Suspension “Illegal and Unfounded”

Contradicting the suspension announcement, John Adaji later clarified that he did not sign the purported suspension letter and described the entire action as unauthorized and invalid under ADC’s constitution. He noted that no proper procedure—starting from ward to state-level meetings—was observed. Adaji urged members to ignore the suspension directive, warning against factional instability.

Abejide’s Stand: A “Forceful Takeover” by Coalition

Separately, Abejide condemned what he labeled an illegal attempt to hijack ADC's NEC by a political coalition aligned against President Tinubu. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the “original ADC” in Kogi and called on supporters to resist coalition efforts he said seek to dismantle the party.
