PDP Warns Nigerians Against Re‑Electing Tinubu in 2027, Labels Him “Bad Market”

Outrage as Youth Minister Says Tinubu’s Reforms Will Bring Diaspora Nigerians Home

Abuja, Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians, urging them not to re‑elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, branding his administration as a “bad market.”

At a press briefing in Abuja on July 21, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba decried the current state of governance under Tinubu, citing persistent economic hardship, insecurity, and faltering infrastructure as signs of failure. He emphasized that no “patriotic Nigerian, group, or party” facing these realities would support Tinubu’s bid for re‑election.

Ologunagba thundered:

“It is clear that President Bola Tinubu is a bad market. So, no one … who is experiencing what we’re all going through will vote for Tinubu. Tinubu is a bad market and a one‑term President.”

He added that despite defections to the ruling APC and the formation of new coalitions like the ADC, the PDP’s grassroots infrastructure remains strong and intact. He remarked:

“There is no community without PDP members … The PDP has never lost its place in the hearts of Nigerians.”

Key Accusations by PDP

  • Economic malaise: Ologunagba cited empty airports and rising airfares as examples of stunted economic activity.

  • Rising insecurity: Recent violence in Plateau State and attacks on PDP members, including a candidate in Abuja, were described as symptoms of a "rudderless government."

  • Loss of grassroots connection: The ruling APC was accused of losing touch, whereas the PDP claims it remains close to ordinary Nigerians.

Strategic Message Ahead of 2027

Ologunagba framed the warning as both a critique of Tinubu’s leadership and a rallying cry for the PDP’s repositioning:

  • The warning serves as a signal of alternative leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

  • By denouncing Tinubu as a “bad market,” the PDP aims to reshape public discourse around re‑election and set the table for its campaign.

What This May Mean

  • For the PDP: This marks a strategic move to regain relevance by presenting itself as the only credible opposition to Tinubu’s APC.

  • For the APC: The party is likely to respond with defenses of Tinubu’s record and attacks on PDP credibility.

  • For Nigerians: The competition highlights a broader clash over the government’s performance and who can better steer Nigeria through economic and security challenges.

Context & Background

  • The 2027 general elections are scheduled to include the presidency, National Assembly, and governorship races.

  • The PDP now positions itself as the only party with the national structure and historical legacy to challenge APC governance effectively.
