The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has escalated its efforts to apprehend controversial entertainer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, placing him on an international watchlist and enlisting the support of Interpol.
From Summons to International Wanted
Initially declared wanted on June 27, Speed Darlington is now subject to global pursuit following his repeated noncompliance with summons issued over a viral video—in which he claimed to have had s+x with a 15‑year‑old. NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, confirmed that legal procedures have been followed, including a court-approved watchlist and coordination with multiple agencies—Nigeria Immigration Service, the Police, DSS, and Interpol
Moreover, the agency is reportedly poised to announce a ₦50 million bounty for credible information leading to his arrest, pending a legal gestation period
NAPTIP’s Urgent Appeal
On its official Instagram handle, NAPTIP urged the public to assist, providing contact details—07030000203 and info@naptip.gov.ng—for whistleblowers or informants
Speed Darlington’s Defiant Response
In response, Speed Darlington has dismissed the allegations as a "publicity stunt", accusing NAPTIP of fishing for “social-media clout.” He defiantly stated:
“There is no crime. All I did was speak,”
“I’m not coming. … I demand ₦2.5 million appearance fee and airfare.”
Despite multiple invitations—on May 30, June 2, and his preferred June 26—Darlington failed to report to NAPTIP for questioning.
Stakes & Significance
This escalation is among the rare times NAPTIP has pursued an entertainer internationally. If the ₦50 million bounty is confirmed, it would mark a significant intensification of efforts to hold public figures accountable—even their statements can trigger legal consequences.
Final Take: Will Darlington’s defiance hold? Or will the pressure of international attention and financial incentive lead to his surrender? The coming days will determine whether NAPTIP’s bold move yields results or simply fuels more controversy.
