It’s Mere Disinformation – OSGF Debunks Rumours About George Akume’s Sacking

Abuja, The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has categorically dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to remove Senator George Akume from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In an official statement issued on Saturday and signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, the swirling rumours were described as “false, misleading and entirely baseless.

"The information is entirely false, misleading and lacks any basis in fact," the statement asserted, adding, "Mr President has no intention whatsoever of removing the SGF." 

The statement emphasized President Tinubu’s unwavering confidence in Akume, highlighting his critical role in implementing the administration’s flagship “Renewed Hope Agenda.” 

Presidency Amplifies the Message

This clarification was echoed by Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a separate press release. He referred to the sack rumours as the handiwork of "agents of mischief," urging the public and media outlets to disregard them. 

Onanuga stressed that President Tinubu remains fully supportive of Senator Akume, who was appointed SGF in June 2023. He also warned that the spread of such disinformation undermines public trust and institutional credibility.

Call for Responsible Reporting

Both the OSGF and the Presidency appealed to Nigerians, especially media houses and social media users, to always verify news before sharing, pointing out the dangerous fallout of circulating unverified narratives.
