Kano, NigeriaGovernor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has joined thousands of mourners across Nigeria in paying tribute to late business mogul and elder statesman Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away on Friday at the age of 94 in Abu Dhabi.

In an emotional statement issued from the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf described the late Dantata as a “father figure to many, a moral compass for the business class, and a pillar of northern progress.”

A Legacy That Transcends Business

Dantata, chairman of the Dantata Organization and one of Nigeria’s most respected billionaires, was known for his deep investments in oil, construction, real estate, agriculture, and philanthropy. Governor Yusuf praised not just his business acumen but also his role in mentoring generations of Northern leaders and entrepreneurs.

“Baba Aminu was not only a businessman; he was a source of guidance, discipline, and unity,” the Governor said.
“His humility, wisdom, and generosity left an indelible mark on Kano, the North, and Nigeria as a whole.”

During a visit to the family residence in Koki quarters, Governor Yusuf also extended his condolences to the Dantata family, offering support and prayers.

“As a father to the poor and a beacon for the powerful, his death is a national loss,” the Governor added.

The Dantata family has confirmed that funeral prayers will be held in Kano, in accordance with Islamic rites. A large delegation of traditional rulers, business elites, religious leaders, and top government officials are expected to attend.

National Mourning and Tributes

Tributes have poured in from across the country and beyond. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former heads of state, governors, and business leaders have all described Alhaji Aminu Dantata as a man of "unshakeable integrity, faith, and vision."

The End of an Era

Alhaji Aminu Dantata, son of legendary merchant Alhassan Dantata, was among the last living links to Nigeria’s early indigenous industrial movement. His quiet philanthropy, economic influence, and role as a counselor to successive Nigerian leaders made him a national treasure.

NewsHouz continues to monitor developments surrounding the funeral and will provide coverage of the final tributes to a man who shaped Nigeria’s economic and moral conscience.
